Ahhh. Into the mind of FitJerk. I love, love the insight…and I now know I can call him a douchebag without fear.
Interview With the Fitness Blogger
Warning: FitJerk’s use of language can be a bit bizarre, but bear in mind with that. – Let the interview roll on!
1. Why do you blog, and what made you start?
I saw fat people and guys insecure about their lowly weight and decided to do something to help these sorry souls. Well that’s one reason, another is for myself. I like to blog, and I like to write, it just so happens that when I write shit, it’s pretty useful (or so I’ve been told). So I decided to start writing stuff that people could use and since fitness is my topic, that’s what I write about.
I mean, I know I can be a dick at times and my sense of humor is bizarre but that’s who I am. I wont’ change for you. But also know that I do like helping people. I achieved by bodily goals at a very young age and figured out fitness tips tricks and techniques that take people decades. So after I got to where I wanted to be I was like “well fuck… now what do I do?”
So helping those who WANT to be helped and those who NEED it seemed like a good idea to me. Unmotivated souls and people who consistently play the victim in life… please stay the hell away from me! You’re negative energy brings me and everyone else around you down. Shit happens in life to everyone, so don’t be the blackhole that robs other pepole’s happy energy. You fucker. (Sorry, I get a little intense about that topic, let’s move on)
2. What did you first start blogging about?
Your mom! *oh snap*. Haha nah I’m playing. I started blogging about fitness and will always blog about fitness. Though I have to say that marketing/SEO is a little side hobby of mine since I love the competitive nature of working to be on top. Keeps me on my toes.
3. How much time does your blog take up? And how much time do you spend following other blogs, forums and groups?
Shit… I don’t even know. Like, ALOT. 10-15 hours/week? The line between blogging and commenting/being on forums is so blurred for me so all together, yeah I’d say around 10-15 hours a week, sometimes more. The thing is I don’t follow just fitness blogs. I follow tech, humor, nutrition, self help and business blogs as well… and I comment on those too. Now some douchebags will be like “why do you bother commenting on a tech blog, that’s a waste of time and won’t get you readers”.
These people are so fucking retarded, they need to be slapped. I mean, do you have only ONE type of friend? If you do, you’re pathetic and one dimensional. I know people from plenty of different backgrounds, careers and personalities, so does this mean I don’t talk to them? Yeah right. Get real homie.
Another thing is I’m passionate so I don’t realize how much time is being taken up. I mean, I’ve written posts while on the shitter just because I knew that if I waited, I would lose the idea. The train of thought would go down along with the rest of everything. I think mentioning that just cost me like 5 readers. But the grossest part is that it also probably gained me like 10 others. Gota love the internet.
4. What is Your Secret?
Uh… hmm. I’m completely transparent. I just say what’s on my mind and I interact with people. The thoughts in my brain don’t go through some triple-distilled filtration process so that people will LIKE ME. Fuck that. 6 billion people in the world… and if you KNOW your shit and are passionate, then a huge chunk of them will like/follow you. On the flip side, when people read this they will be like “YEAH, FJ said say what’s on your mind, that’s what I’ll do!” And then they start swearing and replicate the advice literally.
Don’t be a retard, dropping f-bombs intentionally doesn’t mean you’re saying whats on your mind. My language gets colorful at times because THATS WHO I AM. If that’s not you then don’t try and be someone else. I WISH I was a little cleaner… but hey, what you can’t fix you feature.
And I also know that I can be a dick at times, but I do like helping people. So when it’s time to buckle down and get serious, I do so.
5. What’s your business model? How do you generate income from your blog?
Right now it’s my book, along with a few affiliate ads. I capture leads and funnel the traffic. In the near future I have goals to start a “gold members area” so that’s a monthly payment thing and you’ll get exclusive access to some QUALITY shit from FJ. I guarantee it. I’m also planning on starting a store to sell fitness products but it’s no regular store, it’s going to have a bit of a twist. Stay tuned.
6. What are your favourite blogs?
Shit son, this list can go on forever, but I’ll try and be conservative…
problogger.net
copyblogger.com
techcrunch.com
engadget.com
masscontrolsite.com/blog
winelibrarytv.com
diet-blog.com (tho it’s being really fucking lame lately)
truth2beingfit.com (Jody is my homegirl, be nice)
crankyfitness.com
jcdfitness.com (JC is my home-dawg, he’s pretty real, check em out)
fitnessblackbook.com (Rusty has got some good stuff, he’s got a huge follower base)
yumyucky.com (Josie eats some nasty foods, yet stays in shape)
tremendousnews.com (this fat guy is one funny motherfucker!)
fitnessspotlight.com
…and that’s all I can think off the top of my head right now.
7. What are some of the advantages that blogs have over regular web pages, especially with respect to marketing?
Well the most important is community & feedback. If a guy thinks you’re a douchebag then he can say so. Well on my blog he can, since I don’t censor comments, you’re free to say what you want as long as it’s somewhat relevant to the article. But too many blog writers are too pussy to do this, because they are afraid of what people might say or the image that it will send to other readers.
And I have something to say to those pansies: GROW A SPINE! If you can’t handle 2 ends of the opinion spectrum, you have no business running a blog with an open comment section. Stick to a regular site or disallow commenting you prick. It’s like saying “go ahead, share your thoughts, but ONLY if they are nice, make me look good and are super duper useful”. Heh, what fags. So that’s one advantage.
Another is the the ease of use and support. If you run a traditional “site”… you’re on your own. If shit happens you gota pay $$ and call the web developer. However, if you say, run WordPress or Blogger, there are forums you can hit up where thousands of knowledgeable people can help a lending hand. No wait… LEND a helping hand. God damn, and I sometimes call myself a writer. Shit.
Anyways, thanks for listening to my shit. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a workout to do.
