Implement What You Read, Don’t Just Read On!

By Shirley On December 17, 2009 Under Guestposts, Philosophies

So many bloggers are going all round the internet reading blogs, downloading ebooks, buying books, all about blogging and other blogging-related stuff, well, I think that this is so great a thing that they are doing. But are they implementing what they are absorbing into their minds through reading? That is the question here.

Most bloggers complain about not succeeding with their blogs and other unsuccessful things related to their blogging career and I know that this is caused by many factors but I think that not implementing what they read is a big factor of blogs being unsuccessful and I even wrote a post relating to bloggers taking action about what they learn about blogging on their blog which I titled “Stop Roaming From Blog To Blog And Concentrate On Yours“.

And because of most bloggers not implementing what they read, many authors who write ebooks and books related to blogging often emphasize in their ebooks and books that what is required most is that the reader implements or takes action on what they are reading or else all that they’ve read won’t work and would just go to waste.

So I have 3 advices to give to all bloggers on how they can implement what they read and get benefits.

  1. Implement What You Read: After reading from a blog, a book, or an ebook implement the tips and techniques that you think your blog will benefit from.
  2. Take Notes Of What You Want To Apply: When reading take note of what you would want to apply to your blog from the blog, book, or ebook. You can take note with your mind or take note with a pen and paper or notebook (I recommend the notebook). I recommending taking note with a pen and paper or notebook because with that when you forget about the things you have taken note of, you can still come back to the notebook to refer to it than taking note with your mind where you are highly prone to forget.
  3. Remodel The Tips And Techniques To Fit Your Blog: When you apply or are applying the tips and techniques you’ve learnt from the blog, ebook, or book and they don’t fit your blog so well, make sure to remodel or restructure them to fit your blog so as to be of great benefit to your blog.

So this is my advice today for all bloggers about implementing what you read.

Do you implement what you read? If so, how often do you do it? If not, why don’t you do it?

Please share your answers to the questions above and any other thoughts you have about what I’ve talked about today in the comments field below. Thanks :) .

It’s great to see Shirley over here on DaneBlogger, nice work! :)

Loved the article, very true. Today alone (around 1 hour online) I’ve already seen 3 articles which are really thought provoking; must be something to do with the festive season ;)

And, I agree with the points you’re making here Shirley. I mean, so many bloggers seem to be a fountain of knowledge in their articles, yet, if I’m honest, their blogs are still of a low quality. If you’ve got the knowledge from other articles, the next (and most important thing) you need to do is to implement these tips, otherwise not only is it ironic for you to be spreading that knowledge, but it’s also a waste!

There’s also a balance to be had between “implementing” and “tinkering”. It’s definitely good to find value in what you read and apply it specifically to your unique situation – but you also must *commit* to what you’re doing.

Many people are impatient and expect results to come within a week – hence the infatuation to read more in search for the “silver bullet”. Unfortunately, most effective strategies need the aspect of time to work in your favor… concentrating on implementing one thing after another & remodeling time and time again just sets you back from allowing things to run it’s course.

Don’t be afraid to *commit* to something and live with the results, even if you find out you were wrong!

Good article, Shirley. :-)

Indeed taking action is quite a challenge for the majority of wannabe-IMs. The main reason they fail is indeed that they can see the points you make, but they fail to implement it on their own blogs and websites.

Keep up the good work, Shirley. :-)

I am so guilty of following all of my fav bloggers. That I have started a blog where I interview bloggers that have been either successful or maybe they are just starting out. The one thing I am very guilty of is I am never happy with my theme. I change it all the time whether it just be a little css here or there or a completely whole new theme. There are so many choices one just needs to be happy with what gets them a blog that is readable and leave it at that. I am a fan of constant change and I think that is what hurts me some times when it comes to themes. I really did like your points from above though. Good work. I will take some of them and implement them in to my own blog.
