Mikkel, this is my first visit to your blog (discovered from BlogEngage) I agree that the videos need some work, but I can't criticize you too much, I haven't been brave enough to even do one yet!

I comment on blogs for a number of reasons:
1. I have something I want to say, generally I have an opinion about everything and I like to voice it whether I agree or disagree.
2. Promote myself, let's face it, commenting on blogs is NOT SEO, it is promotion when you leave a link to your site. I think this is a common misconception for commentators.
3. Build community, I see much of the same people commenting on the same blogs I comment on, and many of them come to my site as well.
4. Interaction, it is my belief the Weblogs were started and Web 2.0 is part of a movement to create actual interaction back and forth rather than just "reading" an article, you can add your input or ask questions etc...

Just my opinion...

Great video Mikkel; video posts are definately something I should start doing... you're setting a great example to other bloggers!

Back to the topic in hand... I comment for the same reasons as Brendan listed earlier, but I'd like to add another one: relationships.

Having relationships with other bloggers is a great thing (no, I don't mean boyfriend and girlfriend... I mean as "contacts"), because in the end it'll come back to help you. Take me and Alex Fraiser of Blogussion for example... in the early days of his blog, I was a regular commentator. Through that, I've now done several guest posts on his site, and he's been interviewed twice on Teenius, had a guest post published and, best of all for me, he designed my theme for me. Having that sort of contact with other bloggers is invaluable and it all came from commenting on his blog! :)

Nothing wrong with commenting to get your brand spread accross the blogosphere. It's both a marketing and a social activity, hit-two-birds-with-one-stone kind of interactiion. Commenting is a win-win for both the publisher and the visitor.

@Brendan yeah, well at least I hope. I need to practice more...

@Jordan Well, now when I comment on other blogs I am not just posting "Great post" etc. I try to write a quite good comment that others can use to something.

I actually did that on JohnChow's recent blog post. Anyway. But well I am trying to write a helpful and thoughtful comment.

Have a nice day, everybody!

Getting your name out there is all well and good... but realize that your comments speak volumes about yourself - I consider every comment I leave elsewhere as an extension or a "micro-blog post" in and of itself.

What do you want people to think when they see your comment? Just an automaton looking for back links or someone that stimulates most thoughts towards the topic at hand? I prefer the latter... if that means I only comment on a fraction of blogs because of it, then so be it. Meaningful impact in a smaller sphere can easily outweigh superficial activity on a larger scale.

There are 3 reasons that I comment on blogs. 1) Share my feelings on the subject 2) Traffic to my site 3) Branding and recognition

Good video Mikkel! You will get better with these videos in time. It's true that practice makes perfect.
