[List Building Series - 5] You do Not Need a Large List to Make Money

By Mikkel Juhl On October 19, 2009 4 Comments

There’s a popular myth out there that hurts most online entrepreneurs. The myth is that you need an extraordinary large list to make money. This isn’t true.

If you take a look. You should look after the marketers you think are successful, many of these are referred to as “gurus”. There is no shortage of material to be found, many of them has ebooks for sale, that will teach you how to build a BIG list of 10,000 or more people in a short period of time.

You do not need a list that are that big. Not even 1000 people to make quite lot money. Of course if you end up being completely successful, you will probably get hell lot more subscribers than a 1000, or maybe even more than 10,000.

Well the point is that you can make a very good amount of money even with a small list. One thing I learned some way back, is that even a list with 10,000+ subscribed (some of them will be gurus) only had a conversion rate under 6% from their list.

That definitely can equate a six figure income, but the conversion rate is very low.

Wouldn’t you rather have responsive subscribers and conversions of 25% or higher? (my conversion rate is about 60% which, could be improved but it is a good result.

I want to take a moment to mention testing here, because as you grow in your business, you will need to do lots of testing. Once you have a list that is growing, you can do split testing (also explained in lesson 2 I think). Simlpy putyou some of the dynamics in your sales letter, whether it’s headlines, or the information in the sales letter.

There are simple ways to send out different emails to different portions of your list, and then rate how they convert in sales, or just openings.

Imagine to make 500 sales from a list of 1000 people.

The best thing you can try is to build lists in separate niches, deliver awesome content and helpful information to them, answer questions and needs. This is how you build a working relationship with your subscribers.

This is the end of the list building series. I hope you enjoyed it. I will start a series on a new topic in a week or two. If you like series, please comment or contact me and tell me so. If you would like to see more series.

[List Building Series - 4] Why You Need a List

By Mikkel Juhl On October 7, 2009 1 Comment

Internet marketing is different from running an offline business (but you should threat your online business as a online business). When you own an offline store, you will talk to customers face-to-face. When you keep seeing the customers face-to-face you will get to know them. Their likes, dislikes etc. That is the normal process of building a relationships with customers.

This process is similiar to dating.

When you build an opt-in list is similar, but it is done in quite different way. Internet marketing has a new way of creating relationships. Well not a new, just another way of working out relationships.

There is lots of ways to build an opt-in list. The far easiest way to do this by giving a free offer to a potential customer, in exchange of their email and fire name. That is all.

Another method to building a list through the offer of a newsletter or ezine. A newsletter owner usually offers a free subscription so that he can provide the customer with valuable information regarding the topics he writes about.

Have you ever gone shopping with a certain product in mind? Usually when you enter a store, an employee will eventually greet you with an offer to help you look for something. You have more than likely brushed them aside with a comment that you are only looking around.

When you focus on the customer’s needs, you will learn an essential piece of making money online. When you build your list you need to build a relationship with each customer. They will tell you what they want. In essence, they are helping you build your product. Then they will buy your product.

Build List + Create Product to Meet Needs of List = Products Sold to List

You need a list because that is a great way to build relationships.

[List Building Series - 3] What Messages You Can Send Using Autorepsonders

By Mikkel Juhl On October 4, 2009 2 Comments

If you have chosen an auto-responder, you will be able to send 3 different messages. If you haven’t bought an auto-responder, you can read which one you should choose in lesson 2. You can send these types of messages:

  • Follow up
  • Broadcast
  • RSS Broadcast (only applies to some auto-responders)

Follow up-messages

Follow-up messages is used in many ways. It is the scheduled messages your subscribers receive. Sometimes it is created on a membership site. I have set some up, with the most important tricks I have, I only have 4 follow-up messages on the list I use for DaneBlogger dot Com.

When you create a follow-up message everyone on the list will receive it. You set an interval, which means you can make the first message to come the first day the person subscribes, and then the next message 3 day after the last message and so on. Follow-up messages depends on the time the person subscribes.

I use follow-up messages to:

  • Send a message with the link to my report, I have provided.
  • Send a welcome to the user, with my facts. How to contact me, my blog etc.
  • Then I use it to send some links to the best of my blog posts – It gets updated monthly.

That is some of the things I use follow-up messages on – You can also use it to set up a course. They can in that way receive 10 lessons about a specific topic, these messages will be sent over maybe 30 days. That gives 1 message every third day, then you set the interval to 3.

Broadcast Message

This is just like a regular email, it will be sent to every single subscriber. It will be send when you press the send button. So only the people who already are subscribed will receive the message.

You should use this method to announce something:

  • New blog posts (only if it is a very good article)
  • A contest
  • Great affiliate products (I haven’t done this yet)

That is something you could do – So real time messages. Things that people just need to see right now.

RSS Broadcasts

This is simple, this is mails that contains your blog posts, your rss feed. It sends a message every time you post something new to your blog’s rss feed (every time you post a blog post).

I just use Feedburner for this, that is probably the easiest thing to do, I think. They also send messages once everyday, so if you publish two articles in one day, they will only send one message, containing both blog posts.

This blog post explained the different messages you can send. Feel free to see the other blog posts on list building

[List Building Series - 2] What Autoresponder You Should Pick

By Mikkel Juhl On September 25, 2009 2 Comments

Earlier this week I started on something new here at DaneBlogger dot Com, I introduced the first series of blog posts. This is second part of the list building series.

If you haven’t read the blog post you should do it here: Introduction to List building – You can follow the whole list building series by clicking the link.

Now you should know what a list and auto-responder is. You might have signed up to my list, to see what this is all about. If you haven’t I really would recommend you to do it (can be done here: DaneBlogger’s List).

I use AWeber as my auto-responder, and I really think that this service is the best available on the market. You can also choose a auto-responder called GetResponse, I haven’t tried it myself but I have heard that it should be a great auto-responder. Even though I think you should go for AWeber

Why You Should Go For AWeber

  • If there is a problem the supporters will fix it within 24 hours
  • You can try AWeber for one month for only $1 – After that $19 (which is cheap)
  • You can make money referring people (if they take the $1 you only make $0.30, well that is $3000 if you refer 10000 people (good luck on that one) )
  • It is easy to use, no coding is needed. You only have to paste the opt-in code into you site
  • There is a “Get Started with AWeber” webinar, so there will absolutely be no problems using AWeber

Delivery Rates

AWeber has relationships with ISP’s like Hotmail, Yahoo and many others, to they try to make sure that your messages doesn’t get into the spam filter. I know an auto-responder where only like 40% of the emails is being sent to the recipient’s inbox.

You can install a script on your own server, but that will not be good. You server can be to weak, to send a message to over 100 people. You will not have the right relationships with ISP’s and then many of your emails could end up in a spam filter.

According to AWeber they have a 99.34% delivery rate (that is a lot, relative to the 40%) These stats means that almost every subscriber will get your message.

Tracking

If AWeber is your choice, then you will be able to track almost everything. When you see all the tracking available you can find it overwhelming.  There are lots of stats you can look at.

How many emails that reached your recipients, how many emails that where opened, etc.

I recommend AWeber!

You can try AWeber for only $1 for a month: AWeber Email List Building

[List Building Series - 1] Introduction to List Building

By Mikkel Juhl On September 21, 2009 3 Comments

Today I’m going to start on something new here at DaneBlogger dot Com. It is a series of blog posts. At the end every article will be linked together.

The subject I’m going to cover is List Building. List building is the way to make money. The beautiful thing about list building is you really can reach hundreds, thousand people. You can make them, follow you Twitter account, visit you website, but best of all you can build trust.

First when people have a true trust for you, then you can truly make them do what you want. <- This isn’t a lie. You can make them buy, follow you, visit you.

I know some people very well, and I open their mails every time I get one and there is some I don’t know that well, I may just delete it. So it really depends whether you have their trust or you have a good relationship to them.

Okay, enough of introduction, now you should know how this thing works.

List building makes it possible for users (subscribers) to receive your emails. They have to put their name and email address on one of yours forms, and then confirm their subscription by clicking a link in a standard email sent by you autoresponder

I will try not to make this to nerdy, here is what a list is:

Your list is a list of names and emails, collected in a database. Whenever you want to contact them, you can send out a email, I will describe this later in the series.

So you can easy contact every subscriber, build trust to them. The options are unlimited. I suggest if you don’t know what a email list is, you should subscribe to my email list. If you subscribe you will get a free report, about how to start blogging.

If you know what a list is, I think you should subscribe. Anyway, you can subscribe using this form below

This list building thing may sound pretty difficult, but remember this is a series, which means there will be lots of articles about this subject. This means that you will be able to follow this process entirely. How to set it up on your site and so on. Hope you will enjoy the series.

In next “episode” I will reveal the factors why to use it, and what auto responder you should pick. I’m looking forward to hear what you think about this in the comments.

Have a nice Monday
