What Is a Blog Buddy?

By Mikkel Juhl On August 16, 2009 Under Build Your Blog, Featured Post

This is the explanation to the question, that people have asked me a lot about. The question is:

I keep hearing everyone talking about, how nice it is to have a blog buddy, but what is a blog buddy?

There’s a lot who have asked me this question, so I think I’d be better to create a blog post about it, instead of making individual replies to everybody.

If you work with a blog mate, it’ll be a lot easier to build up your blog. You should try find someone who has the same passions as you. Then you can see each others blog grow up, while you’re giving feedback and support to the other blogger and the same thing in return.

Tour_De_France_2005_07_09There’s even a song, which says  “Two are stronger than one!” In this case it means, that there is lots of advantages if you work together as bloggers. It’s also possible to create a group network – Instead of blog mate it’s blog mates.

Here the song will go: “Five are stronger than one!

Okay, if you and another blogger decides to start two different blogs up, and you help his blog to get improved, and so in return.

So when two people already are working together on the same thing, you can also work on projects together. Produce products together, share links, resources,  guest post on each others blog.

How to Find a Blog Mate?

If you have an just started blog, I’ll recommend you to get going, and publish some articles at first and then searching for other bloggers who can become your blog mate, after you’ve done that you can create a user on a forum, with a related topic to your blog.

When you’ve found a forum, then you should start and connect with other bloggers, in the same niche. That’s a way to find a blog mate.

That’s far from the only way you can find a blog mate, you can find one through Twitter or by browsing blogs, and then contact the author of the blog, and ask if they’re interested in some partnership.

This is all a bit like cycling, have you ever watched Tour de France? The team that’s the leading group, is in one long row (fighting against the wind resistance), and they are helping each other as much as possible.

A little tip on the go: Connect with as many people as possible, that was probably the biggest mistake I made when I first started out with blogging – Now I’ve a big network, and it’s easy for me to promote a new blog or a new product

I think the one thing missing in your description is the fact that one should also be able to accept negative comments. When constructive it enhances your own blogging experience.

Not all people can handle criticism, but when done constructively it is of great value to all parties involved.

Fairly right. Every blogger should be able to handle criticism. Well it should be constructive critic, and that is another thing blog buddies can do for each other.

To give constructive critic, and then act. Respond to the critic, use the critic. That’s important.

Good post. One thing I may not agree with, however. I don’t think for a blogging buddy, or buddies, that in the beginning you should connect with as many as possible. I think quantity is more important than quality. I do believe, however, in building a large network on, say, Twitter, or even in some forums. But each of these is not going to be as close to you as a blogging buddy or buddies. A blogging buddy has to be someone who can give you real advice, real help, and even constructive negative comments (as Henrick mentions above). Not everyone should be your blogging buddy. Choose a good one or few. Then network with many bloggers in and outside of your niche!

Yeah – well blogging buddies is meant to be one or a few bloggers in the same niche, making case studies to each other etc.
